Harold Ford Jr. was born in Memphis, Tennessee on May 11, 1970, and he grew up in a politically active family. Both of his parents were involved in civil rights activism and were supporters of the Democratic Party. Harold Ford Jr. followed in his father's footsteps and became a politician himself. He served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1997 to 2007, representing Tennessee's 9th congressional district.
